I Took the First Abortion Pill but Don’t Want to Take the Second.

If you’ve taken the first abortion pill, mifepristone, but have changed your mind and don’t want to continue the abortion, don’t panic.

Call a medical professional as soon as possible.

Call Prestonwood Pregnancy Center: 972-428-4700

A nurse can talk with you about Abortion Pill Reversal (APR) and help you understand your next steps.

What Is the First Abortion Pill?

A medication abortion typically involves two medications.

The first is mifepristone, which blocks progesterone, a hormone needed to maintain a pregnancy.

The second medication, misoprostol, causes the uterus to contract and expel the pregnancy.

If you’ve taken mifepristone but haven’t taken misoprostol, you may be wondering if it’s too late to change your mind.

It may not be.

What Is Abortion Pill Reversal?

Abortion Pill Reversal uses progesterone after mifepristone in an attempt to counteract its effects and support an ongoing pregnancy.

Prestonwood Pregnancy Center provides APR at no cost. It’s important to begin the protocol as soon as possible, with the best results when treatment begins within 24–72 hours after taking mifepristone.

There is no guarantee that APR will result in a continuing pregnancy, but if you have changed your mind, contacting a medical professional quickly gives you the opportunity to learn whether it may be appropriate for you.

What Should I Do Right Now?

If you took mifepristone and don’t want to continue with the abortion:

  1. Don’t take the second medication until you’ve spoken with a medical professional.
  2. Call 972-428-4700 as soon as possible.
  3. Follow the medical guidance you receive about your specific situation.

If you’re experiencing severe pain, heavy bleeding or other concerning symptoms, seek immediate medical attention.
